New WordPress-dot-com themes in 2007

If you’re new to WordPress.com you might find the large selection of themes in the admin area a bit daunting. The screenshots give an impression of the layout and colors, but the fonts are a mystery until you actually load the themes. On another page I listed the 59 themes that were available when I signed up in April 2007, with links to actual-size screenshots. The thumbnails on this page link to full-size screenshots.

Ocean Mist.

Two columns — Fixed width — May 2007.

Ocean Mist is an attractive blue theme which fits comfortably within a 800×600 window. However, should any of the background images fail to load, it won’t look quite right. Although Ocean Mist is new to WordPress.com, it has been around for a while.

Redoable Lite.

Two columns — Fixed width — July 2007.

Redoable Lite uses light colored text on a dark background. At 1024×768 resolution a horizontal scrollbar appears in the browser window, but you can see the whole layout. At 800×600, the theme sidebar can’t be seen without scrolling.

Digg 3 Column.

Three columns — Fixed width — September 2007.

Digg 3 Column is a clean and sharp three column fixed width theme. At 800×600 resolution part of the third column and the “Search” button are obscured.

Black Letterhead.

Two columns — Fixed width — October 2007.

Black Letterhead uses a mixture of light and dark gray text on a black background. It fits comfortably within a 800×600 window.

ChaosTheory.

Single column — Fixed width — November 2007.

A single column for posts with two sidebars at the bottom, and page navigation at the top. Post-info for each post is placed on the left.

No header image.

There’s no download link as this theme was developed exclusively for WordPress.com.
